The OYA programme, in collaboration with Zambia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, organized an aquaculture incubation training programme in Solwezi, in the NorthWestern province of the country.
60 young agripreneurs (38% women) were enrolled in this 5-month programme (June-November 2022) which included capacity-building sessions and field experiments. Beneficiaries were grouped according to their residence vicinity and could put their knowledge into practice by raising fingerlings in 4 fish ponds (two of them built by the beneficiaries).
This training programme will contribute to job creation in the region as more youths will benefit from the knowledge and experience acquired by incubees throughout the programme.
This activity caught the interest of national television and radio which broadcasted news about it, reaching 3 million viewers country-wide.
This successful pilot activity will help refine OYA’s upcoming training activities in other selected value chains and upscale this training countrywide.
